Social Responsibility

Rushmore Mall is proud to be a community partner. We strive to meet community challenges through a combination of employee volunteerism, financial support, in-kind donations and partnerships with non-profit organizations which have missions consistent with our vision and values.

Community Partnerships

This year, we are proud to support these main non-profit organizations: Western South Dakota Services Inc., Meals Program, United Way of the Black Hills and Allied Arts.  In addition, we provide hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions by monetary, merchandise and real estate donations.

In 2008, we reached out to the community in several ways:

- Donating computer monitors along with miscellaneous computer equipment to Youth Family Services.
- Proud supporter of the Newspapers In Education Program which is a part of a worldwide effort to stimulate learning through the use of newspapers in the classroom.
- In conjunction with the Rapid City Clean Up Day, we distributed refreshments around our neighborhood of businesses as a good will gesture.
- Our used printer ribbon ink cartridges went to the Lions Club to recycle.
- Children’s Miracle Network was able to raise $5,100 through their “Cutest Baby Photo Contest”.
- Through a live broadcast from the shopping center, the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon raised a record breaking $329,036 to benefit sick and injured children in the Rapid City Regional Hospital System of Care.  One hundred percent of the money raised locally stays within the area.  The total raised was an increase of $38K or 13% in donations.   Mall team members donated time to man the phones for donations.
- Rushmore Mall helped with blood donations for the 3rd annual Guns 'n’ Hoses Blood Drive. This friendly 4-day competition was between the Rapid City Police Department and Rapid City Fire Department for a total of 720 donors. At Rushmore Mall, the community stepped up to the challenge with 380 total pints collected.  The mall as a donation area broke the 1-day blood drive record by collecting 194 pints in one day!   United Blood Services was able to collect a total of 681 pints of blood for Guns ‘n Hoses 2008. This will help up to 2,043 patients in need of life saving blood with the hospitals we serve.  In Rapid City alone, the need for blood products has doubled in the past 5 years.
- To show our support of our veterans, large patriotic sheet cakes were delivered to both Veteran Homes in the Black Hills area to celebrate Flag Day.
- Through our MVP Grant Program, we were able to help 3 non-profit groups in our area with a $500 donation to each organization:
o       Camp Invention
o       Bike MS
o       Youth & Family Services

Thanks to our enthusiastic staff and our dedicated retailers, we are able to give back to this great community.  We encourage you to do the same!

Contribution Requests

Each year, Rushmore Mall will contribute a preset amount of funds in the form of Gift Cards, merchandise and use of property to a diverse group of organizations. Hundreds of requests are anticipated each year. Donation recipients may include civil organizations' education programs; food banks; foundations; hospitals and healthcare organizations; youth programs; performing arts and museums and many more. Each request is reviewed carefully, however, not all requests can be granted.
